About the Project

The Women’s Memorial Playing Fields is located located on the corner of Ayliffe and Shepherds Hill Road in St Mary's and currently owned by the state Government and operated by the Office for Recreation Sport and Racing. Lacrosse and women’s football (soccer) are current users of the site, along with the Women’s Memorial Playing Fields Trust that access and use the centralised community facility to commemorate the Bangka Day Massacre with an annual service at the dedicated memorial located ithin the precinct.

Options are being considered for the site to be transferred into the ownership, care and control of the City of Mitcham. and One Eighty SLS and associate companies of Sproutt, Coshell Architecture, and Rider Levett Bucknall undertook the study to determine current status of assets, potential uses, layout and costs associated with the future use and management .

Investigations into optimising use were considered and a carrying capacity and schedule of use undertaken . Community access was also a key consideration of the project, with findings presented to Council for consideration regarding its ongoing involvement and management of the site.
