Trails, Cycling, and Walking Strategies

Our Appreciation

Trail planning has become increasingly common as they provide a variety of experiences and benefits to include health and physical activity outcomes, social connectedness, environmental benefits and management, active transport routes, and tourism and economic development.

Our Approach

This is adapted according to the situation and potential trail use whether this be for commuting or recreation as we plan for all aspects to include cycling, mountain biking, walking, hiking, horse riding, tourism, or active transport. Understanding the difference is critical as given the potential crossovers, there are many potential conflicts. How these are managed, minimised, or mitigated is therefore crucial to ensure optimal safe use and access.

We develop a comprehensive understanding of trails and identify their benefits which include health, social and community connectedness, environmental, transport, and tourism and economic outcomes. We then classify trails from Local through to regional with auditing and mapping and identify design considerations to address barriers and enhance opportunities.

We have also developed several walking strategies that aim to assist clients better understand the barriers to walking environments and have captured this in our Policy to Pavement (P2P) framework. This takes clients on a journey from understanding the benefits of good policy through to planning and prioritising actions to enhance walking as a form of recreation and active transport within our communities
